Selling your stuff on eBay is a great way to earn some extra cash. It can also be a great way to earn a regular income if you are willing to put in the work. You can easily make money with ebay by selling things you have around the house that you don’t want anymore. Here, I am going to give you some ideas on how to be successful making a little extra cash, or even starting a small business with ebay.

Selling on eBay

You can sell just about anything on ebay from clothes to cars, and with millions of viewers already visiting ebay daily, it’s a lot easier to sell things or start a business. If you want to start making some extra cash fast, look for anything around the house that is in good condition that you do not want anymore and put it for sale on ebay. People will buy just about anything that is still in good condition on ebay, because remember, one person’s junk is another person’s treasure. Keep in mind though, some things are a lot easier to sell than others.

It’s easy to get started with eBay and make an account. All you have to do is register.

It is very easy to start a business with ebay. All you need is a lot of things to sell because you need to try to make a decent income. EBay charges a certain fee per month to set up a business account and you want to make sure you have enough income to make a profit, even after paying ebay.

Guideline 1: Ideas on acquiring things to sell on eBay

Here are some ideas on acquiring things to sell to start a business:

  • Going to garage sales and buying to re-sell

Many people have garage sells where they just want to get rid of things, because they are moving and don’t have time to sell on ebay. Also, some people also are not very tech savvy and don’t like to use the internet to sell things. The point is that garage sells can have some very nice things that people NEED to get rid of, and if a person NEEDS to get rid of it, you can usually talk down the price or the price of the item may already be below its worth. Buy there and re-sell.

  • Buying from people you know

People always have something in their house that they no longer want, or will just get rid of. You can ask family, friends, acquaintances, neighbors, or just about anyone if they have something that they don’t want anymore. Offer to buy it from them for a reasonable price. Most of the time those people will give you the item for very cheap, because they never even thought they were going to make money from it anyway.

  • Buy in Bulk and re-sell

You can buy bulk t-shirts, or clothes from large companies or smaller businesses usually for discounted prices. The more you buy, the more of a discount you can get. Use that to your advantage. Be creative and buy bulk plains t-shirts and design them yourself, and re-sell them individually. You will usually make a profit if you can sell everything you bought in the bulk order.

  • Look in the bestsellers section

Looking at the bestsellers section of eBay is a great way to come up with ideas on what to sell. There are plenty of buyers on eBay and if it’s a bestseller, it may be that way for a while. You can duplicate items in the bestsellers list and put them as products in your own business. You can buy the items, if possible, in wholesale from a supplier and re-sell.

Guideline 2: Successfully listing and selling on eBay

Listing an item on eBay is quite easy, all you have to do is give the item a title. This title will be the name that everyone who is looking to buy items in this category, so you want to be sure that you are descriptive as possible is the title. Ex. Blue Long Sleeve Polo Ralph Lauren Collared Button-Down Shirt.

When you go to put the item up for listing, don’t put the highest price you can think of. Look up the item to see what it has sold for in the past and put a price within that range. Be sure to determine the price by the condition the item is in.

There are two ways you can list an item on ebay. You can list the item with a fixed price, or you can list it auction style. Fixed price listing prices cannot be changed in duration that the item is selling. With auction style listing, the item will sell to the highest bidder.

If you list the item auction style, set the price a little below what you think the item is worth, and set the shipping fees a little higher than the usual. When you set the price below its worth in auction style listing, this will attract more people.

So, if someone buys the item at the price you first set, you can still make a little extra by increasing the shipping price, but not too much, maybe just two dollars more. You can sell items this way on ebay for as long as you have stuff to sell.

Guideline 3: Ways to successfully market your eBay business

There are many customers on eBay already. This is great news for the people who decide to start an eBay business. When you list an item, this item is automatically sent to a pool of other items in the same category. The people who are looking for items in your category will see your items, along with others. This is great marketing for your eBay items and business, but don’t only rely on eBay. Do work yourself as well.

  • Market on social media

Social media is one of the internet’s most popular categories. Most of the big name social media sites like Facebook and Twitter have millions of viewers and users. You should take advantage of every social media site that you know of. Make a Facebook page, Twitter account, Pinterest account, etc. for your business and market your items and business brand.

  • Market locally

Set up flyers in grocery stores, salons, or wherever you are allowed. People in your local area may be looking for exactly what you may be selling. You want to market to as many people as possible. Everyone on this planet is a potential customer.

  • Advertise great customer feedback

When someone buys your product and leaves a great review on your business’s service or item, the best way to gain the trust of others is to market those great product reviews. When people see that you have helped someone else in their life with your product, they are more inclined to let you do the same in their lives. They will be more inclined to buy from you.

Guideline 4: Successfully shipping products and getting good customer reviews

Once you have made a successful sell to a client, you want to make you sure you always ship the product out on time. Use a box or enveloped with enough wrapping inside as needed to make sure the item(s) do not get damaged. Here the Services you can use to ship of your items.

After you have shipped of the item and the customer has received the item, make sure to contact the buyers in order to thank them for their purchase. Leave a positive review on their eBay profile if you feel as though they were good customers. Never leave any negative reviews for anyone, even if you feel as though they were bad customers.     There are basic principles to apply and this post just about revealed those basics.

    I’ve never sold on Ebay. Bought a few things over the years but never trying selling anything. Thought about trying their classified ads, never got around to it.

  6. Hello Lawrence, I did start selling on ebay back in Jan and as you have stated Titles are Key! You do need to be as descriptive as possible and always be sure to use up all the space that is provided.

    You mentioned Social Media sites and I was hoping you had some clues to Pinterest, I have been thinking about this but not quite sure how to go about it..
