1) Eric Thomas
Eric Thomas is first on the list of motivational speakers because he is someone who is really growing in popularity and someone who has inspired me personally. Eric had a rough childhood growing up in Detroit. He became homeless and dropped out of school at a young age. He eventually obtained his G.E.D. and found the love of his life who inspired him to go to college where it took him 12 years to get a 4-year degree. Eric Thomas emphasizes his rough childhood and broken past to continue to empower people to live up to their full potential. He has truly risen from the bottom and is now able to speak all over the world now.
Eric Thomas who recently received his Ph.D. started out speaking and counseling at Michigan State University where I attended school. I had the pleasure to be personally inspired by Eric Thomas by attending the youth program he started at M.S.U. called the Advantage program. It was every Tuesday and I attended the program faithfully, feeling the passionate and determined spirit he filled the room with. Though he no longer does the Advantage program anymore, he continues to inspire me every day.

2) Les Brown
Les Brown was born in the low-income section of Miami, Florida in an abandoned building. He has faced many trials and tribulations throughout his life, being deemed educably mentally retarded while in grade school. He rose through those challenges to become one of the greatest motivational speakers to ever live. He has used his past obstacles and challenges to uplift others and continues to do so today.
He was not always set to become a motivational speaker, but he had one day heard someone give a speech. Les Brown thought this guy was absolutely boring, but the guy had said something that made Les think about his life. The guy had said “I know that I am boring, but I am able to do more than you and give this speech because I have rejected all the fears, insecurities, and doubts that you have accepted.” That’s when Les Brown began his journey in public speaking.

3) Tony Robbins
Anthony Robins grew up without much money, for his gather was a parking garage attendant and his mother re-married several times. Robbins had a rough childhood where he has to work as a handyman to provide for himself and his two younger siblings. He was once chased around the house with a knife by his mother and never returned home after.
He started out his career by promoting seminars for Jim Rohn, another great motivational and personal development speaker. Robbins said the Rohn taught him many valuable lessons about life and was a major influence in his life. He later became a self-help coach and grew in popularity.

4) Jim Rohn
Jim Rohn was a very influential entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He mentored some now known house-hold names like Tony Robbins and Mark Hughes, the founder of Herbalife International. He started out his career being a distributor for a couple direct selling companies, but was then noticed and mentored by the company’s founders. After this, Rohn grew one of the biggest organizations in the company. He was later asked to speak at a meeting at his Rotary club. He gave his first public speech at the Beverly Hills hotel and from that point on he continued to speak all over the country for forty years.

5) Nick Vujicic
Nick is widely known for being a motivational speaker and having the rare disorder, tetra-amelia syndrome, where he was born without any limbs. He has no arms or legs. As you can imagine, he struggled mentally, emotionally, and physically, but he was able to overcome his disability and started a non-profit organization at a young age, Life Without Limbs. In 2005, he was nominated for the Young Australian of the Year Award. After graduating from college, Nick became a motivational speaker. He has spoken to over 3 million people in over 60 countries.

6) Ray Lewis
Ray Lewis has just retired from playing in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, where he played with them for 17 years. Lewis has been considered to one of the greatest linebackers of all-time. He won defensive player of the year two times and become the second linebacker to win the Super Bowl M.V.P. award of the winning Super Bowl Team.
He was not always on the right path though. Lewis had a rough childhood and was incarcerated at a young age for drug-related offense. Ray Lewis may not be most popular for being a motivational speaker, but the passion and fire that he brings to each speech he has done makes him one of the best motivational speaker in the world.

Zig Ziglar served in the United States Navy at an early age, but then later worked as a salesman in multiple companies. He later become the vice president and training director for an Automotive Performance company.
Ziglar started out public speaking at seminars and wrote his first book See You At The Top. Ziglar loved inspiring others so much that he continuously traveled the world to give motivational speeches even after he took a fall down a flight of stairs, which left him with short-term memory loss.

8) Wayne Dyer
Wayne Dyer started out his career as a high school guidance counselor in Detroit and became a professor of counselor education at St. John’s University in New York City. He is not known to be one of the biggest self-help authors with his first book, Your Erroneous Zones, becoming one of the best-selling books of all time selling over 30 million copies.
This book was based on the positive thinking and motivational techniques that he taught at St. John’s. These techniques and teaching attracted all types of students and attention. Dyer later quit his job as a professor and teacher to pursue a career in public-speaking. He traveled the world and began building more success with a series of audiotapes and the launching of new books.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has had success in not just one career field but multiple. Schwarzenegger is a successful Austrian-American actor, model, producer, businessman, investor, director, former bodybuilder and politician. He began his career weight training at the age of 15 and he won the Mr. Universe at the age of 20. He then went to win the Mr. Olympia contest seven times.
After he became a prominent presence in bodybuilding and grew in popularity, he went on to film to become a very successful actor, having many successful movie roles and box-office hits. After being a success in the theatres, he later pursued a career as a politician and became elected as the Governor of California. Schwarzenegger became a success because he believed in himself and he has instilled that same belief in people through his motivational speeches. He inspires people to be different and unique, and to live out their full potential.

10) Jack Canfield
Jack Canfield is an American author and motivational speaker who began his career as a high school teacher. He later began to work at the Clinton Job Corps Center and Jessie V. Stone Foundation. He co-authored many books and holds the Guinness world record for having seven books on the New York Times best-seller list at the same time. He was also the co-author of the world famous book, Chicken Soup for the Soul, which was the third best-selling book in the United States in the mid 1990’s. Canfield has done a lot with his life and inspired many along the way through his motivational speeches.
